The current Spanish Ministry of the Environment, Agriculture and Fisheries, the result of the merger between the former Ministries of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Ministry of the Environment, has in its possession valuable documentary, bibliographic, photographic and audiovisual resources.
The instrument designed to showcase and enhance these valuable documentary assets is the Digital Media Library.
This project came about as part of the Ministry’s undertaking to compile information on rural and fishing communities in response to the new challenges posed by the knowledge society.
The historic documentary resources
Since the beginnings of the 20th century, the Ministry of Agriculture has made a significant contribution to the documentary film genre, with films which provide useful information on the development of agriculture, rural society and agricultural policy over this period, and which on occasion have a marked cinematographic value in themselves.
